Grip
Check to Help Your Slice or Hook
One way to help your slice or hook is to check your grip.
Many golfers who slice set their hands in what we call
a weak position (the hands are rotated too far to the
left). If you look down at your left hand on the club,
you may only notice one knuckle on your forefinger.
Someone who hooks the ball may have their hands in a
strong position. A strong hand position is where you
look down and notice all four knuckles on the left hand
(hands are rotated too far to the right). Here is something
you can do to fix a strong grip if you have one. Grip
your driver in your left hand and stick a tee between
your thumb and index finger. Now pinch another tee between
your right thumb and index finger and complete your
grip. If the tees point to your right, your grip is
strong and the clubface will tend to close at impact.
The tees should line up with the shaft. This grip will
help you square the clubface at impact. On the other
hand, if the tees point to the left, your grip is weak
and you will tend to open the clubface. Again, you will
want to get your tees to line up with the shaft.
